Hey defender owners, where do you find is the best place to mount your uhf radio? In my old car (2003 hilux - for sale incidentally) it was a nightmare to try and find a spot to put it.
Also, I'm happy for any suggestions of well fitting and well performing models for me to acquire late at night on eBay....
IMO a GME TX3540 with the controls in the microphone is the most tidy solution and safe when you are in the big smoke because you can remove the microphone for security.
I fitted the radio between the drivers seat and the center console and the microphone in the dash. Worked very well.
my gme3220 was on top of the dash in front of the ash tray with power and aerial going through ashtray hole, i mounted it there so i could hear it in a defender with out needing an external speaker, since replaced[after it died] with a supercrap oricom uhf in the same location and working well
Icom IC440* inside the centre console, I was worried about heat but so far it hasn't gone about lukewarm even though the console is chockers full of other junk.
*This radio has all controls and speaker in the mouthpiece, so no need to access the hear unit ever.
I have the GME TX3520, with the main unit mounted on the back of my centre console and the control face mounted just below my radio. It is in a 06 TD5.
