What you is put metal spacers between the winch and the bar. This takes it back far enough to clear the bar. Then use 3.5 v8 head bolts to mount the winch to the front , as they are the same thread and style as the warn ones but longer. Also pretty cheap from a Land Rover store.
My old 90 with an ARB bar and 8274 or High mount warn.

I just mounted a runva 11000 ($650 from wolf 4x4 , very helpfull:D)in my td5 , I think the LR winch bullbar from that era was a rebadged ARB bull bar for the defender extreme pack(02 , 110 wagon). They are supposed to have a good rep, but don't try the 9500q as it is a bit to wide so ends up offset .
Hi Sam. I really appreciate your comment in reply to my query on this forum. Unfortunately I disagree with your assessment of what the sales guy was trying to do, as the one I was dealing with clearly stated the winch I was interested in wouldnt fit the bar. Uncannily as you can see from other people's experiences in other states, the same messaging is being given by other members of ARB sales team.
As I havent had a winch in the past, I accepted the sales persons professional advice (albeit wrong info). As a potential customer I would expect to be offered genuine and accurate info on what I was going to spend my hard earned dollars on. I can handle a salesperson trying to sell me a product over a rivals model but to blatantly mislead me (purposefully or not) is not good practice.

I had a quick look at your profile which shows you are from ARB head office. Do you supply weight specifications for your bars or not. If not, can you me explain why?
The dealer I spoke to told me they don't even know weights of bars or other ARB products, hmmmm I find that, lets say, unusual!

ARB did NOT make the Defender bars. It was made in Sydney.
On the ARB bar:
i had a high mount as per Weeds post and then changed and fitted a 9500XP in my ARB Defender bar, some light trimming - I'm sure the new owner of the bar could post some pics of the mod! Took about 15 minutes to do.

Specific bar weights are not something we generally make available, even to dealers.
One of the reasons we prefer not to publish these weights is that, alone, the weight of a bar can be misleading as it doesn't accurately translate to additional weight placed on the vehicle. During fitment, a number of OE components are removed and, in modern vehicles with crash beams and other components, this removed weight can be considerable. Likewise, the addition of other accessories to the bar, such as driving lights, winches, fog lights and even UHF antennas all add to the overall weight of the bar on the vehicle.
The loading of a vehicle is perhaps a more important aspect to consider. Not just the actual weight of the different components, but the load distribution. Where load is distributed in a vehicle can greatly affect axle loads and, in turn, affect vehicle handling, load and even legality. For example, excessive rear loads will affect front axle load and rear axle load in tandem.
Our engineers very much subscribe to the adage that first and foremost, any new bar design must meet our stringent requirements to ensure it's fit for purpose. That means that both the strength and the level of protection a bar provides take precedence over weight. It's no secret that steel is inherently heavier than plastic or aluminium but we firmly believe that the benefits that steel provide far outweigh any extra weight associated with the product.
Having said that, clever design is also used to reduce weight where possible without compromising strength. A great example of this is our split pan design which effectively saves weight but increases strength.

Well that's all very corporate HOWEVER the lack of supplied weight data for a bar makes it MORE DIFFICULT for people to assess the 'more important' total load / load distribution. Seriously there's NO down side to quoting the weight of a component, only upside.
Unless of course your bars are heavier than you like to admit...
By the way I do like ARB bars, so I'm not having a go at the product itself here...
Well I don't know what I was doing but I missed your reply Sam, sorry, wow time gets away.
But I have to agree with Vlad. If I can get a tube bumper that weighs around 35kgs, then add a winch both of them might add up to the weight of the ARB bar alone!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'm not saying I want a tube bumper, I'm just using that as an example.)
Or not............because I don't know what one weighs, I have been told figures of about 65kgs :eek: but I'll never know unless I go out and BLINDLY buy one. That would be like buying the defender without doing your research on the vehicle first. I'm not going to shell out close to $1500 unless I know what I'm buying.
This is why we need to know specific weights, yes we remove items, but the weight of a defender standard bar isn't that much. I have kept track of EVERYTHING I have been taking off and extras added to my 90 just to know how FAT its getting. I can then decide what items I actually NEED, or just think I need :D
And like Vlad, I too like the look of the bar, but I don't want a ships anchor at the front of the 90 either.
