It's for the cab air intake![]()
Why the AirFilter on the passenger side Guard?
Can't disagree more with this statement - to even suggest people drive on low beams at night is foolhardy, roos are not the only hazard on the road. The only safe way to drive on low beams in the bush a night would be at around 20-30kph. You need to be able to see what is in front of you, standard low beams have a 20-30m range, and at 100kph you would not even have time to register what you were going to hit before you were on top of it. If you drive to the range of your headlights, then on low beam you need to be pretty slow, otherwise you under the fool's belief that what you can't see won't hurt you.
Some recent example where decent headlights have save our car and possibly our lives on our recent trip around Australia, one was traveling on the Central Arnhem Road, an hour of after sunset, a large buffalo which did not even move off the road until we were a few metres from him, he was walking away from us and probably appreciated the light. We saw him about 500m away and were able to slow down easily, similar thing out on a back road inland from Cairns, large black cow lying down on the road - we saw the "lump" a few hundred metres away, and were able to stop from 100kph, but on low beam we would have had no chance. I slow down when another car is coming towards me and have to switch to low beam and use his headlights to see what is on the road ahead, the only way I can see what is going on.
We have yet to hit a roo at night, we see them a long way off and slow down, and we have seen hundred of them along with sheep, goats, cows, camels, pigs and even crocodiles all far enough away to stop safely.
I rang the insurers today as I haven't heard anything. They are going to fix the car with the quote coming in just under $5,000. I hope the parts are not coming on a slow boat from England. The crash repairs will open next week after Xmas Break.
Nice looking rig Gillie, I hope they quickly get it back on the road for you. It's frustrating having to drive something other than your setup![]()
We were just up in Bright.
Ours has an ARB bull bar. I've just ordered TJM scrub bars n steps.
We do allot of out back. Scrub bars should be renamed Emu bars. The damage they do is unreal. And some time they get up and run away. Before you get their details.....
After seeing your photo I am quite glad I've gone the way I have.
Is your truck fixed now?
Sorry for the delay, but here are a few pics of the front spare mount, Mary.
It worked out well for the Simpson trip. Kept our centre of gravity lower than a roof mount, and the loss of a bit of approach angle didn't cause any concerns off road, either. Temperatures were fine right throughout the Simpson, even through pretty soft dunes.
Highway running & the temps were sitting about 5 degrees higher, so we kept the speed down. Coming home we put it on the roof to cruise normally.
Cheers
Another pic...
Hopefully by the end of next week. I have ordered sheepskin covers for front and rear seats and a mulgo seat rail. My jobs for Xmas holidays was bullbar, winch, xgt lightforce lights, uhf, power to the tray and brake controller ready for a trip in March. I need to also look at the ac and some heat proofing. I think Bright is the only place not on fire at the moment, though we were lucky last Thursday and were able to contain a fire before it got to the Bush.
