Yes, with some modificaitons you can take the car further but ultimately, the Defender is a VERY old design.
- Oil seals
- Air intakes
- Breathers
- Electronics (don't forget the ABS sensors).
- Margin of error.
- Litigation.. :angel:

In the past I have been very apprehensive with water crossings, and plan to stay that way!
