Yuo will find that without the trailer attached the trailer symbol will flash once, this is a normal function. If you have a trailer attached it will give you an indication of trailer light failure or dash indicator light failure.

Good evening all,
Long time reader, first time poster here with a question about the trailer Direction Indicator Light appearing without a trailer.
I've just noticed today the trailer light appears briefly when using the indicators - I'm fairly sure this isn't usual.
Is this something to be concerned about?
James

If you have a bullbar fitted, with incandescent lights in it, it is possible that they are pulling just enough current for the car to think there is a trailer attached.
Many thanks indeed for your replies - as a new comer to Defenders I really appreciate it!
I don't (yet!) have a bullbar fitted, so I'm thinking that Lindsay has hit the nail on the head. Its very good to know that its part of normal function.
Thanks again,
James
Mine has done this as long I have owned it (over 5 years). I have never towed with the vehicle so don't know what it does when a trailer is attached.
Cheers, martin
I'm in the same boat here. Mine flicks on and off in unison with the indicators.
I put it down to the spotlights on he bullbar, or light bar. That being said, the trailer icon illuminates irrespective of whether the spotties are on or off.
