Less than a week to go.....

The final countdown begins! Expecting delivery this Thursday.

Turns out I will be getting a June build MY14.

We test drove on a rainy day any noticed quite a bit of a rushing water noise from the wheel arches and a loud crack when a stone was flicked up from the road. Sounds like paint on noise proofing for the external wheel arches is a pretty common thing to do, can anyone recommend a good product for this?

When I drove mine home from the Dealer I thought I was under attack from automatic weapons! The stones banging around from the Conti's was horrendous, and this was just on the bitumen.

My mud tyres don't pick up anywhere as near as many stones in the tread, but there are still stones flung about when on gravel roads.

I haven't done anything about soundproofing etc and I acknowledge the banging can be very loud at times. I have become quite tolerant to it, as it occurs with less regularity now.

    Thumbs up

Yes, when We first heard the sound of stones hitting the wheel arches we were petrified,...thought it was stones hitting the vehicle/ windscreen etc etc, and that big marks would be the result!!??...All normal, we're used to it now,..all part of "Defender Driving"!

I asked a similar question a while ago, got some good suggestions:

But, yes, the machine gunning of stone chips does get less noticeable after a while!

By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

I ordered in March, it arrived in July but i wont get to see it till November ...... This site keeps me sane however thinking about what im going to do when i see it finally. What makes it better / worse ..... is its my first ever Land Rover and first ever new car! Hope it still smells new when i get to see it. Will be like going to hospital for your first child i reckon ha.

Cant wait for the sound of stones banging around, if thats what it takes to be driving my defender!

You will love it I'm sure. Also, it's easy enough to deaden the sound of stones banging by lining the wheel arches properly. There is plenty of info on here if you do a search (use the search button on the bottom LHS of the page).

By the way, after you do get used to the bangs, wait till you have a Defender newbie in the car and hit your first stone. Bloody hilarious!! Ha Ha
