Take the plate of the top from inside the engine bay and you can see the pushrod and trunnion.
The pushrod has a nylock at the end and two locking nuts on the inside of the trunnion. Adjusting either way give you pedal height up or down but the important thing is that there is no pressure on the pushrod when the pedal is at rest.
Feel the pushrod with your fingers it should feel loose with a bit of sideways play. If it is stiff you will need to adjust the nuts.
Freeplay is set with the two locking nuts.
The trunnion should be floating between the nylock and the other two.
Do not do the nuts up hard against the trunnion.
A couple of mm freeplay is enough.
It may take a bit of trial and error but a bloody good thing to learn especially in a Defender.
And that freeplay is critical;).
Mine is an 02 defender still with original clutch.
Cheers,
Paul.
