Hello, I had a leak from the rear main seal on the transfer box, and when I replaced the seal I found the drive flange had a slight groove where the seal had been wearing, so I got a new Bearmach drive flange, and the kit came with a new part a mud shield that fits under the old dust cover, the question being is it a good idea to fit this mud shield or not? I have fitted it but am now having second thoughts about it, anyone any experience with installing one? On a 1996 Defender 110? The kit is STC 3433. The mud shield in question is the one with the nut sitting in the middle of it?
From my investigations if you install a Bearmach drive flange you have to knock the mud shield onto the base of the drive flange, and if you do this I think it would work okay? I've removed mine as I don't think it's needed, maybe if driving through a lot of mud all the time it would be a good idea? Hope this helps someone else.
