My MY15 Defender strangely does not have any of these heat problems even after 4000 km in 7 days, now e I've done it, :p. I was was planning to wrap the exhaust, but so far no need.

On the early series Land rover, the exhaust pipe was fitted standard with a couple of shield's, one on the engine pipe in front of the foot well and the other between the exhaust pipe and under the floor.

Loubrey, have you experience the difference those ram vent tops make? I have seen them b4 & thought they weren't high enough. But your right they look good. The one I made is prob. 4 or 5 times higher, looks a bit daggy but hell it works. Ian

I've had them fitted to my last 3 Defenders and it does have a greater effect on 300Tdi's with their slightly more "primitive" ventilation system... :D

On the fan side it definitely assist with the "fresh air in" setting and it has the added bonus of keeping dirt and rubbish out of the vent intake "scoop" inside the wing.

On the right I think its mostly aesthetic to match the left, but maybe you get just a bit of air lower down the engine bay to help ventilate things a bit. Although we all know about the "ventilation gap" between the bonnet and the wings! :)

I'm not sure if anyone's ever used one of those remote thermometer widgets to check if they have any effect on the right...
