If its a genuine 96K then cam should be still ok but its easy enough to check while you have the heads off, oh and there is only one camshaft.
Hi there,
Just bought 1985 3500 v8 110 in original condition with a blown head gasket issue. I'm thinking of doing the fix myself and having the reco guys skim the head. The truck has 96k km only, so I'm not sure if I should replace cams while I'm at it. Budget is limited, and would like to stretch the cams out for another 18 mths.
Not planning on taking donk out, and not keen to take off all components to check timing chain.
I guess it all comes down to cam wear....
Any comments would be appreciated.

One cam - yes of course! Long long day.
Thanks for reply.
I had to fully recondition a 3.5 V8 at 80 000ks (in 27 years)
Time is a factor with these engines if they haven't been serviced properly.
Do the timing chain and Cam as well as the gaskets it will serve you well provided you don't overheat it and fuel is still available.
If you put a different cam in you can get a performance increase as well![]()
For what it's worht, I've got a box of "new" (bought about 10 years ago) top-end rebuild parts for the 3.5 V8 (full set of valves, 8 guides for unleaded petrol, full set of hydraulic tappets, two composite head gaskets and valley gasket, JP steel duplex timing chain and gear set - for replacing the steel/synthetic LR chain which tends to stretch, etc.), which I no longer need and will sell at a reduced cost, although you'd need to cover the postage from Botswana.
Send me a pm if you're interested.
