Never understood litres/100km. Whats 100km got to do with anything.. not useful. Much prefer km/litre.

Its like when you ask people how thirsty and they reply "I get xy kilometres per TANK.... yep, super helpful. NOT.

Agree 100% with you jimb, strange way of calculating consumption as the figures mean nothing outside side by side comparison.

My 2.4 90 get 10.2 km/ liter (4 years of tracking on Gas Cubby App) which means 56 liters would give me a theoretical 571.2km range.

On the other hand 9.8 liter/ 100km means very little other than comparing it to anyone wanting to know about it...

Always chuckle when someone tell you that it cost less to fill the tank this week... because you put bloody less fuel in you muppet!!!

    My two cents!

    Cheers,

    Lou

Lou mate. I fully AGREE on both counts!
(in Europe they used to do km/L but I think they have become irrational and changed as well)

quick story. Talking with the neighbours and they were asking about the Defender and I made the comment that I thought it was pretty economical for a 'large 4wd'.

"Really" the neighbours wife replied with scepticism, " how often do you fill it?"

I said, "Once a week, and if I'm around town (in Mackay) without a roof rack I am normally make 10k/litre (its actually 9.7km/L but I rounded up to not look like a freak).

I ask, "what do you get in the Cruiser?"

"Oh, its pretty good. Fill it once a week."

I'm not sure why, but it did sorta annoy me because I knew a V6 thirsty toyota isn't going to be doing 10km/L. I asked for tanks and how many litres a week- but just one tank filled a week- no specifics.

The husband and I drove up to Eungella the other day.
    17km/L.
    auxiliary tanks...
    ...need I say more?!

probably 200litres of fuel in that baby compared to my piddly 75 (which BTW, has anyone got close to filling 75 litres?)

better response again is "I get 575km out of 1 tank!", and they have no idea how big the tank is.

Each to your own, i prefer it because, if i want to do say a 750 km trip i can go

12 * 7.5 = 90 liters, easier to do in your head, or mine at least
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

So that would be 17 liter/ 100km or 5.9km/ liter... pretty dire if you ask me.

I also smile when guys fit long range replacement tanks and the onboard computer calculates on the the original volume. Makes the figures look spectacular because suddenly you get twice the km's for what the computer thinks is the same volume of fuel...

They interviewed people 6 to 8 weeks ago when the fuel price was low and the one woman reckoned it normally costs her $100 to fill the tank, but with the cheap price it's less than half that, so she fills up every second day...

    Cheers,

    Lou

I'm paying off my new Defender, to spend $30 more in fuel! ...My 300Tdi uses 2litres/100km less than my puma! So much for lower emissions.

    Hi Jeff,

17 liter/100km is actually 13.8 mpg, so most probably worse than your 2A and pretty dire for a modern engine as a said before...

The Land Rover SDV8 engines are SIGNIFICANTLY more economical. Just goes to show how old Toyota's tech actually is and how weak their arguments to the contrary are.

    Cheers,

    Lou
