I did that a few years ago - the tyre place selling them was just around the corner from a Toyota dealer. If you can't find them, ask the dealership Service Dept which tyre dealer they use.Quote:

Finally got some time to call around during normal hours and found that Jax where able to source XZL 7.50 R16 easily. If your still looking for these try them, as I was able to get 6 for $234 each. Might be worth to have a chat to them.

Bernd, the XZLs sound like a good deal at that price even if tubes and fitting are extra. I was briefly in Brisbane but didn't have time to get the tyres, I'll do it next time, I think i need to clean up the rims inside first as well , they might be a bit corroded in there, the standard rims look good on the outside though. thnaks for the tip about Jax , cheers simmo
For the $239 they are fitted and balanced. I got six as they are going onto the off road steel wheel set I have. I definitely don't plan to keep them on for around town, especially since the missus drives the Deef around town more than me and dislikes it in rain... It must get her feet wet when she drives :D
After quick chat with Jax and they are able to easily source Michelin tires. They are one of their main brands above the others they deal with. If you have a Jax local anywhere they should be able to help arrange Michelin's.
For the XZL's they don't have them on hand but will get them in for you. They are all from the same manufacture date too and not found from here or there as one company said they could do to source them for me... Though if you are a bit far out, I got some advice to ask industrial tires shops they should also be able to source these.
Only thing I forgot to ask was if they could get them in the 235/85 R16 version.

My wife and I bought an Ex MoD 90 that came with XZL's (or possibly XCL's) in the size you describe. A fantastic tire that we did around 60,000km on (at that point they probably did not meet basic safety standards). We found them to be super tough and handled eastern European roads and tracks as far east as the Urals, south as far as Astrakhan.. without a failure. We replaced them with a similar but less aggressive tire which was probably not a good idea in hindsight as we kept getting stuck on chalk in the southeast UK on tracks we had previously done without issue in similar conditions.
I looked at getting a set here on my 110 but could not find them within a reasonable commute/drive. After some research and talk to numerous over-landers who I know have tried both we ended up on BFG Mud Terrains which have been just as good although slightly wider. We have so far done similar millage on the BFG's and still have room to wear. So far no flats despite several outback runs (Mostly trying to cover all of South Australian state corners traveling from Sydney via Broken Hill or Adelaide).
