Righto guys.
A rather simple question for those that run 33's on a 2.4 Puma.
What's your economy look like, and what's your power difference feel like? (Especially whilst towing). I run my tank down to the light where I get about 570-80 to the tank, approx 60-62Lts in the city, and a bit better out on the open road if I stay on the 100 mark.
I'm about to acquire some new tread shortly, was happy to stay with original size (32), but just thought I should check to see if any gains are made by running 33's.
I know what I get with mine now obviously, but not sure at all what difference the 33's would make if I ran them. I realise the speedo will be out, but I run with a Garman anyway, so not concerned by that at all. So wondering what's it like on take off pulling power etc. remembering I do a lot of city driving where I must admit, I push her along fairly well.

Firstly your speedo will be pretty well spot on.
I run MTZ 285/75R16 and get around the 13lt/100 - 14lt/100 on trips fully loaded. Bull bar, roof rack, 180tl fuel, 40lt water. I dont go over 100k/h much.
In terms of power I have a remap with larger intercooler etc so I dont have any problems off the mark if I choose to.

Thanks for that, my speedo's actually pretty right on the original rubber, only out by a tiny bit.
I've also got a set of -25 rims I can put on too, so not sure which way I want to go there.

Got 11l/100km on the way home from Fraser yesterday.
255/85r16 MTs, lifted, roof rack (with spare on top), 1 tonne of gear/fuel/humans, 105km/hr avg.
Remap, Intercooler and exhaust so I've got more go too...

SubscriberI definitely noticed a difference when I first went to the 255/85 both in acceleration and braking but like anything different once you are used to it it's just a new normal. Can't do a direct comparison with km as I have a bigger tank, but I generally get about 8km/litre. Just got back from a trip where we did about 3500km towing the camper trailer (which is no lightweight) with a canoe on the roof and 120l water plus a couple of jerries of fuel. I pushed pretty hard with most of the driving too, worked out average 16L/100km for the trip.
I've been very happy with the vehicle on the bigger tyres, wouldn't go back to the standard size.
BTW Marcus, off topic but my nanocom is currently broken and will probably have to go back to Cyprus for repairs, in case you were wondering.

Your all suggesting I go to the wider tyre, may I ask why, or if nothing else, why have you gone to the wider tyre?
I'm not sure if I want to go wider or not, more drag, more fuel.
I'm looking hard now, hopefully in a couple of weeks I can get some.

A 255/85 is pretty much the narrowest 33 inch tyre you can get (they're technically a 33.8 inch tyre).
A 285/75 is the next narrowest (and is technically a slightly smaller diameter tyre (33.4 from memory)).
In my experience going to a MT will cost you some economy, but not much difference going up a diameter.
I've been very happy with my 255/85 tyre size but I know some prefer the look and on road handling of the 285/75.
Either way you'll likely need rims with greater offset, ideally in a 7 inch for 255/85 and an 8 inch rim for the 285/75.
