Let's just say that the dealer would be in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. They did take time to check if any of the service staff had any knowledge of the potential pump problem and possible recall and the staff indicated no knowledge of a current recall related to this issue so I have no complaint at all. As I purchased my Defender from NSW and re-registered it, Land Rover probably don't even know I own it yet so I won't receive a notification in the post if there is a recall.


As usual I will keep an eye on this forum and Defender2.net to see what's going on. I might give some of the other dealers a ring to see if they have other information.


Luckily I don't have any issues that I know of apart from the fact that sometimes the security warning light on the dash flashes very occasionally while I am driving the vehicle. Car still runs fine though. As per my previous Defender, I am restoring it to a standard to which it didn't leave the factory. :D

I signed onto the TOPIx(link in the defender2.net thread)to confirm mine was on the list before I rang MLR.
This recall has a publication date of "07-May-2015 13:29:17" so only a week old here in Australia.
Even though I'm 2nd owner and it is just out of the 3year/100,00km it is all covered by Land Rover.


I looked up a mates VIN and he is not effected by this, bloody 2.4 drivers:angel:
I did find he has another recall though.

my dealer has just informed me that my parts have been ordered and will be done next week.

Trivetts in parramatta will do your car --they are doing mine next week and have ordered kits for others as well --maybe ring again

Thanks for the advice.

I contacted another dealer who put the VIN into the system and yes, my Defender needs inspection.

I rang the initial dealer and spoke to them again and they too confirmed that inspection of the pump is required after checking the VIN on the system.

If in doubt, get the dealer representative to check the number on their systems.

It is a bit of a worry when those who own the vehicles know more about what is going on than those who sell them. :confused:

Hi all,

I contacted Land Rover Customer Assistance, Australia on Tuesday 12th May and they weren't aware of this recall ... at that stage. The representative said he'd look into it and advise.

He called back today and confirmed that they are now aware of the recall and the modification is necessary for my Vin No. He also told me that there are letters in the mail going out to the owners of all affected Defenders so keep an eye out for it.

My Defender is now booked in for the end of this month, so all being well, I'll be a happy chappy again :D

Mine is also in the vin range. Ill have to be proactive as I've also moved interstate and didn't find out about the intercooler hose till it split. Will make some calls today.

Ok so I was proactive the other day, called Land Rover Australia they said they're aware of the problem and its a vin specific problem not all cars in the vin range are effected. After a quick search found nothing and said my car is not affected by the recall. Something in my gut told me to call the dealer so I did. He hadn't yet heard of it but said I'll get back to you. An hour later calls back and asks for the id number off the timing cover. Couple days later he emails to say he's ordered the part and will let me know when to bring it in to have the oil pump replaced.

Does the recall apply to vehicles within the VIN range or does the oil light also need to be displaying erratically to qualify?

All vehicles within the range. Mine does not have the light appearing but my dealer is still going to change the pump. Apparently the pump quality can not be guaranteed and there was a bad batch that were installed in that Vin range. So yes it has to be changed regardless.
