Recently heard that RACWA are no longer insuring Defenders or any other vehicle which hasn't an ANCAP4 rating or better. If I find this to be true when the Deafeners policy comes up for renewal, that will be the end of a long standing relationship with them.
I nearly cancelled all our policies when they put up our van insurance by over 30% recently for no reason except 1 very small claim for damage amounting to a couple of hundred bucks, less than a third of a years premium.
I complained and was given a "loyalty discount"..... but the premium still increased by approx. 12%.
This is the second run-in I've had with them recently and will be looking very carefully before I renew anything with them now.

We have all our insurance with Racwa and we had the same with our camper trailer insurance recently. I shopped around and provided them with a cheaper quote which they didn't quite match but did reduce the premium significantly so we stayed with them because I've had a few claims recently and had no problem getting things sorted.
Something to consider is that when we had that big storm a few years ago not all insurance companies had assessors in WA.

I went with Shannon's for an agreed value of 20k for 900 a year with all accessories covered.
Has anyone tried Lumleys? I use them for my old Jag and they were significantly cheaper than Shannons.
I had my Series 1 80" insured with Lumleys, as no one else seemed interested. Then I met Shannons at a car show & they agreed to a big discount if we insured all of our vehicle with them, even the old Grey Fergie which never leaves the property. I am going to get a quote from Lumley's for the 90" Heritage as Shannons will not give me salvage rights on a new vehicle, where Lumley's indicate they might.
Mine is through RACWA.
They haven't blinked at insuring it, and I can add my items to the policy and change the value with a phone call. They do require verification inspection on some things, but they haven't asked me to show 'em yet.
I have previously heard rumors of this company, or that one, not insuring due to lack of airbag, or low amcap rating, but it seems to be all bulls*#t.
My 1.4 cents worth.....
Cheers,
Phill.
Interesting the comments on Youi, they have to be the most unpleasant sales team I've ever dealt with - it's a bit like walking down a crowded street in bangkok with dollars sticking out of your pocket....
My decision ended up being based not on the total loss scenario, but on the case of a repair. For me a total loss is a chance to start again, but dealing with a ****ty repair is something you have to live with.
At the time I was dealing with accident damage on a 4 week old defender - I spoke to the Land Rover Panel shop who I had selected to do the repairs and asked them who was the easiest insurance company to deal with. The insurance company I was with at the time were pretty good, and used new panels and allowed it to be repaired to as new condition - except that they refused to replace a scratched alloy wheel (even though this accident was not my fault) instead insisting it be repainted. In the scheme of things this was a minor issue as they did well on the other repairs - but it's that short changing on a new car that some insurance companies take to extreme. The manager recommended Shannons, as the one insurance company that takes the vehicle seriously and will fix it to a really high quality - apparently they would have ordered me a new alloy without question.
So I switched all of my vehicles to Shannons. They are not quite as good as the previous company in touchy feely area - for example no rental car whilst your car is being repaired - which my previous company offered - but they are $600 cheaper.
So for me - the important thing was to find out how well repairs are carried out - some of those insurance companies are very difficult for your repairer to deal with and that's not a good thing.
