    Defender common issues? / HELP!!!!

    Hi Aulros,
    Couple questions
2009 double cab pick up 110
    1. My doors won't stay open on rig simple fix?
    2. What is the hole used for in rear bar with square fitting inside defence?
    3. Rear diff has slight leak where driveshaft locates into normal?
    4. When pushing locker in for H4 it doesn't feel like its in correctly the light does come on dash. recently after being up fraser it popped out couple times. Also when it is in normal all wheel drive that small leaver when pushed to the right seems like it wants to pull back left to a central location?
    5. One of my central locking mechs stopped working, how do you remove door card to inspect.
    Cheers

    1. Door stay kits are available from APT or The Expedition Centre.

3; Oil leaks are not normal although not uncommon. Installing a new pinion seal is a fairly basic mechanical repair.
5; The rear door wiring harnesses are prone to breaking, especially if the door stays have been extended or they have been removed at any time. Instead of removing the door card, pull the ends of the rubber tube that carries the wires from the door pillar into the door, see if the wires are broken.
6; this forum has specific areas for these sorts of questions and you might get more people with specific knowledge looking either in the Defender section or the Technical section.

Pinion seal leaks are sometimes caused by pinion seal failure so make sure that is checked first. The central locking issue is as already mentioned most likely to be a broken wire in the rubber conduit. To help with doors staying open (im presuming you have a puma defender ?) Try tightening the 8mm head bolt that is visible in the door jam next to the plastic trim hiding the stay m3chanism. On 99% of pumas they are loose... 😠
