same here, mine was fine until I did a trip towing a coupla ton (ok ok 3t...) at 100 - 110kph... then it died in a couple hundred kms. Had that replaced and dont drive so fast or tow as heavy and havn't buggered another one - up to 50000kms now.Quote:

Well the molten mudflap was really starting to look bad & so something had to be done as a temporary fix until my new mudflap arrives:

The melted area just kept getting larger.

So I cut the melted area off with some aircraft grade tin snips, then with a little effort managed to install some 17 x 11mm black pinch weld. This just clips on with a hard push & has now been there for 400kms with no sign of melting or falling off. This product is available from Clark Rubber at about $10.00/mtr.
Still not sure what to do with the new mudflap but most probably will go the checker plate backing as found on AULRO search, although pinch weld wrapped all the way around the mudflap may also work, just don't want to ruin another one finding out if it doesn't work.:)
Jeez, that pinchweld looks pretty good. But isn't it made of rubber,...so wouldn't it also melt? What is its description at Clark Rubber?

Hi Pickles, I'm quite happy for the moment, & it certainly looks better than the burnt bit. The description is as I described pinch weld 17 x 11mm. Comes on a great big roll & they sell it by the mtr length or part thereof. It is rubber but with metal inserts that I believe help with heat absorption. I had to open it up with a wide blade screw driver at the corners & then crimp it on with pliers to get a grip. No problem on the straight runs.Quote:

I looked at the Heritage mudflaps... I don't think they are not the same robust construction as the latest ones on my 5 month old 90 SW... the rubber seems softer and bends more easily... I also think the fixing at the top is different...
I have done 3000km in my 90 at 'good' motorway speeds... and not a hint of melting!
Hope you get it sorted... that is a pain mate...
I have the Heritage 90 ones, and standard ones, no difference in material quality.
