Living with a de-catted and de mufflered TDCi

It's been a while since I removed the cat from Tracey's defender so decided to comment on the results.Since buying it the best things I've done to it is fit Mulgo seat rails, axle flanges,a heap of sound deadening on the outside and thick fabric mats covered with rubber mats inside and the decat pipe and center muffler removal.I've been driving it around Perth this last week and it's been hot,mid 30's and the difference is major, when we were living in the Pilbara the heat up through the floor was a a killer, you could cook eggs on the floor above the muffler and a roast dinner in the foot wells but now after a good run up through the Perth hills area the floor temps are cooler.Originally the engine ran well but now runs better,it doesn't have more power but winds up quicker,it accelerates faster and uses less fuel doing it,normally the light comes on around 500-520k's but now it's around 560 or last night it was 580,the furthest it's ever gone, all up removing both the muffler and cat has been a good thing,no over boosting or blown turbo's,no half cooked kids in the back and broiled wife in the front, better performance and less fuel used, happy happy. This thread is useless without getting a video of the in-cab noise and a few high speed drive-bys...

2.4,and it's easy to do,I bought the pipe from Cradocks for $120 posted and it took all of an hour or so to replace,it's worth every cent. Now all I need is a drivers side window because yesterday while parked at the beach someone decided they needed my wallet more than I do . Pat

I think the whole supposed danger of overspeeding the turbo is rubbish. The ECU controls the turbine vane position to produce the required boost.
