So, finally all done, turbo replaced, elbow in front had hairline crack causing overboosting apparently. Intercooler flushed apparently, and in a general check they noticed tailshaft "a little loose" so they replaced all those bolts etc. Arrive to collect at 12 noon yesterday. Bear is spotless :).
Drive 50k and the noise restarts! Back to l/r and they're all working on it. (Including the service manager in his business clothes) off for a short testdrive (like a k at most as he was back almost immediately)
And in he walks looking like a surgeon from the movies. It was now 5.20pm... he says I'm sorry we did all we could... strewth is bear dead?
Looks like new turbo is also now gone... 1st one 57,000k, this one less than 50kms!
I'm off to a 50th in station country so they give me a loaner.
Its a D4 firenze red with 2,000k on the clock...
This will be different!
They'll ring me tues/wed with news...
Public hol Monday.
What is the little red key for?
Gees Digger,, you trying to outdo the Big Silver Lemon?
:(
Damn Nigel, that just sucks.
Two upsides though, your on the spot to have it fixed, excellent, not right I know, but still, it's better than being out in the never never,, and the other is the D4, ohhh nice ;)
Hope that can get it sorted for you mate, there's nothing worse than missing your own steed.
Service providers have been great. I've decided that Besr must've been a Friday car! Must remove the door card and see one day!
I suppose I'll just wait. Hope its back for Easter!
It's only my guess but If turbos keep failing I think they should be looking for an oil supply problem. Hope they work it out for you digger.
Hey Digger
Get them to do a smoke test on the intercooler, Landrover had mine for 3 weeks and changed about 5 k worth of bits ( turbo hoses, maf sensor, ecu, and something else) before they found the intercooler had a hairline fracture that opened up under boost and almost closed up again off boost. It was out of warranty by a few weeks but they honoured it and paid for most if it. I only paid for new turbo hoses. Good luck
Cheers Ezy

Okay I went back to solitaires Who have told me that they think the problem this time was a faulty turbo as in the replacement turbo was faulty!
All the parts are in Australia and they hope to have it finished early this week I really hope they do as without it I won't be going to Melrose (and that would suck )
Solitaires have been really good and Louis and the service manager have both assured me that they will continue to look after me and have been making sure every single thing has been highlighted on the service records for Land Rover so it is covered.
On a good note, I have a three-year-old defender with a six month old Motor, a completely changed cooling and air conditioning system a new injection system and now a new turbo so it's virtually rebuilt!
Meanwhile this D4 is a good feeling car to drive although I found it hard to fit the kids motorbikes in the back they seem to fit easier in the defender?!
