2.4 PUMA Expansion Tank Cap Issue?`

    Hi All
I have a 130 2.4 and whilst the engine is not overheating - l noticed there is coolant around the outside of the cap on the tank after a long run. Is this a common issue? Fault in the cap perhaps?? The coolant is dripping (when hot) onto the exhaust below. Not dripping now the 130 is cold. Weird.

So makes me think it is the cap perhaps??? Or a crack in the tank up high??

    Any help greatly received....

The tank on my 2013 2.2 was doing the same thing since new. The problem is with the tank, not the lid. Apparently there is an occasional hiccup in the tank production that leaves a very slight notch in the top of the neck - hence why the lid cannot achieve a seal when hot/under pressure.

I had the tank & lid replaced under warranty and all is good now

    Cheers,

    Pete

    Hi
Thanks for that. I had a look at my cap - there is no rubber gasket in the lid of mine however there seems to be a grove for on. Surely they need a gasket?

Could someone have a look at theirs and perhaps post a pic of it??

    Thanks

2010 2.4 tdci coolant cap - definitely holding pressure as it spat a little pink blood when released . Definitely has a rubber seal in the cap.

Actually once l looked a little closer it has got a rubber seal...hmmm
It was however done up incredibly tight.

I have back it off a bit and it seems better.

I am replacing the cap tomorrow. So we will see.

Hopefully it is just the cap...??

My 2.2L has been leaking as well. last time it went in to the dealer there was a comment about needing to replace the cap. (Out of warranty now) Interesting to hear it could be the tank as well...

Could this not be solved by the simple expedient of wrapping some plumber's tape around the threads of the bottle neck?

The caps are notoriously cr$p. Im on my third one now trying to stop a coolant smell that I get? It's very weird as it looses 150ml over about 3500km with no explanation, no leaks, no tell tale pink dry crud anywhere.

The last cap replacement has definitely reduced the coolant use. I did not know about the expansion tanks also being made poorly. I'm going to chance that out would have saved me $36 in caps

    Cheers

    UPDATE
I replaced the cap (Thanks Mario @ Roverlord for helping me out over Easter. Total legend). No more leaks.

I just did a 4,500kms trip to Birdsville. No leaks. No smells.

    Only very slightly however.

    Frustrating.
