Cargo Barrier - Advantage or not ?

They say it doesn't happen without photos so here's a few. Firstly, the horizontal cargo barrier. Box on left is for spares.

A simple way of securing the heavy stuff without the need to drill extra holes. On the Madigan trip I had five 20 litre jerry cans strapped in here and the didn't move at all.

Hinged internal roof space rack, mainly for bedding.

I like the hinged roof space. Is that a home made job or a purchase ?.

Just get gullwing doors fitted sans the rear windows and you have 3 ways of entry into the back with a full height cargo barrier... and better use of the area.

Home made - bit of fence from somewhere, hinges are simply two 8mm bolts on extension of half barrier and rear support uses the screws where the OE handles were. Just need to careful re clearance of rear door when closed.

I have a Milford full length cargo barrier.

It has two positions - the 1st one would be the standard position behind the back seats. It has quick release bolts and it can be moved forward to sit behind the folded and raised rear seats. It has extension rails for the top bolts and a 2nd set of holes for floor bolts.

Not saying it is the only one out there that can be dual mounted - but that does give a little more room in the back.

Would someone that has a cargo barrier in a 90 be able to take a couple of photos of the fixing points at the top of the car? I presume they secure at the grab handles in front of the side windows?

Here's ours, it's an Autosafe one. Not a great picture and we've had it so long I can't remember what was there before - I guess the grab handles?

Oh and yes beware the rear door lock with a barrier. Ours seized halfway down the Oodnadatta track with all our gear in the back... Luckily I managed to open it with the key after a few tries but was a stressful couple of minutes...

Is there any preventive maintenance for the rear door lock

I must admit when I posted this thred I had no idea of this rear door sticking issue. I assume dust and crud must some how get into the lock. Even with no cargo barrier a pain if away on trip.
I assume the only way to clean the lock system out is to remove the rear door card. Not easy when its jammed shut.
