Mld forgive my ignorance but were your shocks straight bolt it ?or did you need to change shock mounts etc?would you recommend taller shock mounts?

My tray is a steel tray with a healthy weight to it , I too like your direction with the firm valved shocks I would think it would complement on road handling.

Google Gywn Lewis challenge suspension and that's what I've used. +2" front turrets, new upper rear mounts. I cut the cups off the rear axle mount. Rear shocks are pin to pin. The shocks are for the front of an 80 series. I use 80 series bushes all round, much better than LR crap. 50,000 kms and no sign of fatigue. LR stuff was replaced biannual.

It's not as simple to merely bolt on this kit. Also budget for extended brake lines, rear trailing arms and SuperPro trailing arm bushes to cope with the extra flex, new A frame joint with wider angle. After that, superflex radius arms and the inevitable multiple sets of coils until you find your preferred set up. That's why there is merit in a 10" shock to avoid the additional mods to make it all work.

Have fun playing with set ups. MLD

Flagg would be better placed to answer your Q.

I can't answer that conclusively because I followed a well trodden path of others than fitted the GL kit and I chose shock length to suit knowing it al worked. The sting with a longer shock is the stress on the bushes that are operating well beyond their design parameters. There is a significant investment to fit a 11.5/12" shock. If you have the coin and want the glory the route I followed will give you much pleasure, but be prepared for constant maintenance and/or tinkering to find your happy place.

With that setup you're running really close to the limit. I have slightly taller turrets and rear mounts and I have 20mm lower bump stops on the front (standard for Isuzu 110s I believe). I erred on the site of caution as with bushing flex etc a big hit (pothole etc) can apparently extent the travel by 25mm.

No to moving stuff from inside the engine bay. you do need to cut holes in the strut tower plastic cover as the tower pokes into the engine bay.

You might have hoses come in contact with the strut tower and/or shock pin/nut. I wore a hole in my intake pipe from rubbing. Best to cable tie hoses and other bits away from the shock pin.
