I've puzzled over that one for fifty years - but the ones without flanges are probably a lot cheaper to manufacture - much simpler forging. And even taking into account the cost of the flange, cost is still probably a lot cheaper. And flogging out of axle flanges was not a problem until oil lubricated bearings were phased out in the late 90s. For example, at nearly 600,000km I have replaced one flange on my 110.

Question I have, would these 2016 axles fit on the 2013 110. I am on my way to 2nd set of axles under warranty so it may be an idea to slot in the one piece axles instead of HD. I give mine a lot of flogging off-road often and the current axle arrangement is not fit for purpose.

WHAT are your thoughts on that.

I've got my 1st service coming up soon and I'm going to take it to Graham Coopers. They were the first to point them out and were very interested when I went there for a towbar. I'll see if they want to yank one out while it is in there to see if the diff end is the same.

My 110 has the silly plastic/rubber cap flanges and it's dated 09/2015 on the vin plate on the passenger door jamb.
I read somewhere it's a MY16 but I can't remember where.

My 130 was built 11/15
