Thread: Best fuel for Puma 2.2

BP Diesel,...Cleaner/Higher quality.
Whilst I would be happy with that, as I try to use BP, I would highly doubt it.
IMHO, if a test were done with respect to diesel out of the pumps of BP, Caltex & Shell, they results would be similar.

Here in Malaysia we recently saw the introduction of Euro5 diesel (prior to that diesel fuels were Euro2). If the blurb is to be believed using Euro5 fuel should mean less harmful emissions, more power, better economy and cleaner running inside fuel systems and engine.

I ran 5 full tanks through my TDCi 2.2l. Didn't notice any more power (bum dyno faulty?), fuel economy didn't change either. What was noticeable was increased smoke under high load, full throttle, above 3000rpm.

Concerned that maybe the BAS 170 AB2 tune I run may have been over fuelling (with the better quality?, more refined? fuel) I dropped Pete Bell a note. One of his comments was interesting. Something along the line that my vehicle was built or set up for Euro2 fuel and I should try going back to the Euro2 fuel and see if the problem goes away. (It did).

Not sure if the Euro classifications relate to your "premium" and "regular" diesel fuels.

Coincidently (?) it is Singapore that supplies the Euro5 quality fuels to Malaysia.

And partly Singapore is the reason Malaysia is making Euro5 available in Malaysia, firstly at stations nearest the border with Singapore - I understand there was some insistence by Singapore that diesel vehicles entering Singapore should have access to fuels with higher anti-pollution characteristics. (Lots of trucks cross into Singapore every day delivering goods etc.)

Good point. No one refines in Sydney anymore. All fuel comes as product into either Caltex Terminal Kurnell, Shell Terminal Gore Bay or The Bulk Liquids Terminal Port Botany. Who knows who made it or what's in it or what's done to it before it gets to your tank?
These changes in sauce are only recent as well so any analysis done more than couple of years ago is redundant.

And we don't even have an Aussie flag tanker to support our countries fuel usage, we now as if a month ago rely on foreign crewed and owned vessels to bring us our fuel. How smart are we.

It's just the Sulfur content that they are reducing to make euro 2 etc diesel

Not very smart. If we had oil reserves we'd let big business give it away, not tax it or the businesses and then whinge that the economy is broken when prices drop, then try to make the states put taxes up! Given all of that I'm not sure we want the responsibility of actually transporting the stuff around the world, the crew would be taxed into oblivion but the shipping co. would be virtually unregulated and certainly not taxed. Bonkers. Obviously we are oblivious to our global remoteness when it comes to fuel and so solar tech gets defunded. More Bonkers. Lucky Country? Indeed. But relying on luck won't cut it much longer. Whatever happened to Ampol?
