Surely nothing could be more peaty and smoky than Laphroaig. Its not light as such, just lighter and more subtle, but still distinctly an Islay malt.

It's really grown on me. Doesn't replace Laphroaig as my favourite campfire drink, but is an interesting alternative and goes particularly well with a good smoked salmon. I also like the fact that its a small family run distillery that grows its own barley - and the Land Rover connection.

Dan Murphy has it of course.

Nothing else like Laphroaig. Nothing else like Defender. ...loading up with too much frippery defeats the purpose; the rich simplicity, the reason for being. If consumption is tempered by discernment, restraint and good taste, the path will become clear. Rather than what to load in the Defender, I find the question of what to unload, how to simplify far more interesting... travelling light is an artform.
