An AULRO member has done a conversion: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...-defender.html or the other is be the first LR to grab a Nissan/cummins 5.0 TDV8 and mate it to the lt230 5.0L Cummins V8 for Nissan Titan

They look like Awesome options, I need a drop in drop out motor or someone who can do the mods as I am not capable.

Spoke with Bruce Davis today RE: the 6speed auto, he is not a fan, says they draw a lot of power from the motor, and the gearbox computer doesn't communicate.

Love to hear feedback if anyone in OZ has had it done.

Blog - Duramax to Nissan Patrol Engine Conversion

    I think a 6.6, 650hp duramax into a cruiser/patrol is about 40-50k
That's with a 6spd Allison auto transmission, which is supposed to be the bee's knee's of autos to handle power. Now as people have fitted patrol front diffs to defenders, the clearances should be similar.
Also the AULRO member has one up and running.

There are some issues with one of the OTHER converters, not sure what's going on though?

Another "fun" option would be a 6.2litre LS3 with a 6 spd auto at around 1/2 the duramax price!
Marks have an adaptor plate to blot the HSV/holden v8's to an LT230!

Give them a ring and they will recommend a local to bolt the lot together for you, it would be tempting if you had the spare $$$$ LS3 Engine | eBay

    Aaahhh Frantic,...We agree on something?.....LS3.
LS3 would indeed be a great engine for any Defender. Firms like "Twisted" etc do quite a few of them in the U.K.
The GM LS3 Smallblock is a compact, 6.2L V8 with around 450HP & 570NM, depending upon which spec you order,...a matching 6 speed GM Auto would be the way to go,....this is standard HSV stuff, so there's a fair bit of it around S/H.
Of course buying the powertrain is the easy part,....getting it to work in a Defender is quite another thing, depending upon how handy you are, or alternatively,......how many dollars you have,......I'm lacking in both.

    Thanks pickles
I know about this because late one night shift I saw the disco2 that marks used to develop the adaptors for sale either with or without the ls3, same as you pickles, I couldn't afford it but out of curiosity and for future reference just asked marks who they would recommend in NSW and they referred me to a place out western Sydney ( I can't remember the name sorry). To me it's an option in the future when the td5 dies.

Honestly option A buy another defender for x then spend how many hours and or dollars getting it back to my old one , or B put in another td5 at a cost 1/2-2/3 the ls3 or C spend a bit more and have some fun!

For the ABS/traction control, AFAIK it's a seperate unit to the ecu in my td5, but if anyone knows more please post?

The D3 manual box is just an MT82 same as a defender/ford mustang so you would only need the bellhousing to suit, 6R80 is a ford trans built under license from ZF so effectively its just a ZF6HP trans.
TDV6 manual using LR parts would be virtually a bolt in job as you can use an LT230, 6R80 would need some adaption but nothing is impossible.
    Auto would be awesome .

Mmmmm I'd be happy with the TDV6 but even happier with the 6.2V8.

    As a teenager I always wanted a Defender/County and also wanted a V8.

Maybe now I can kill two birds with one stone. Yippee.

What are the various opinions on what power/torque the rest of the standard driveline can take?

At what point does an engine and tranny change then entail changing diff/axle changes as well?
