There's a thread on the alpine head units here: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130...re-update.html
I attempted to upgrade my head unit and failed, the Bluetooth was unusable after the upgrade. I sent my unit off to Alpine Australia who followed the same procedure and achieved the same result after replacing the Bluetooth module.
Just because the deck has the same model number does not mean it uses the same firmware; the deck in my MY16 defender has MW band radio, something that US and Australian models do not have. The file I used for the upgrade was supplied by Alpine in the UK so it was closer to the correct configuration than some of the other firmware files around, I speculate that LR might have had a special build for the Defenders that may not have an upgrade path, the green backlighting being one feature that seems to be unique to the Defender decks.
In the end my problem was resolved by Alpine Australia supplying at reasonable cost a reconditioned Australian market unit which uses my faceplate and works well. It has red backlighting and no MW but everything else works well.
If I was to do it all again I'd just go to JB hifi and fit a new unit that has enhanced Bluetooth and an external microphone supplied. They should be a plug and play proposition and you can use the factory mic.

I'd probably go for the 153EBT or 164EBT models with the 164 giving you selectable front panel lighting.

I do have a similar generation BT133 deck in another vehicle and the firmware upgrade went swimmingly and fixed my problems, hence why I proceeded down the upgrade path.
