Sandy Cape (the best part of Fraser Is) is a doddle at low tide with the only drama being Ngala rocks bypass...and so many people get stuck there there's always someone to help if it happens to you :D
Low pressures, momentum and recovery gear will see you through.
The sand is soft on the western beach as you come around the top but you can only go as far as the lighthouse anyway.
Unless the muddy part is really chopped up, ngala rock bypass isnt that hard. Softer than the beach, yes, but i found the inland tracks more of a challenge.
cool. then il be heading up there for sure. ive got a couple maxtraxx and it seems like having your speed up with the right pressures and everything is ok.

Great. You'll love it. My 110 wasn't really challenged much and I haven't used recovery gear on Frazer yet, except to pull a Hilux out of a bog. Your 90 should have no trouble.Quote:

There were a few "challenging bits", but lowering tyre pressures mostly alleviates them.

This is an interesting thread, the blokes in the video are idiots and are part of the reason many areas are getting closed off to 4wders. The first access track they are going up has been closed for years, but some people keep removing the bollards that the rangers install to indicate that the track is closed - at the top you can see the boards heading back down to the beach - this track is the northern access track for Orchid Beach.
The Wathumba Crossing has also been closed for years. In the past you were able to drive from the barge landing at Moon Point all the way up to Wathumba Creek along the western beach, but they closed the northern end of the beach to vehicle traffic and Moon Point is now also closed. There were a couple of challenging Creek crossing along this stretch of beach.
The beach north of Wathumba Creek is also closed to through traffic, you can access Platypus Bay and drive about 250m each side of the access track however north of this mark is closed to all vehicles right round to the Restricted road up to the lighthouse.
The western beach is prone to getting covered in weed, which is unable to be seen when it gets covered in sand so it looks hard, but as already mentioned in this thread, isn't and many cars have been lost.
Fraser Island is great, I always try and travel 2 hours either side of low tide. I normally run about 20psi. Ngkala Rocks bypass can be a challenge depending on how dry it has been and how chopped up by other drivers, but if the sand is low on the beach there are other rocks that might restrict your access to the Cape/lighthouse.
And you can't drive the entire circumference of Fraser as Moon Point to the bottom of the Island isn't able to be driven.

Great trip.
We camped at Waddy Point top site which is fenced. This is the most Northern fenced campsite , with kids gave us peace of mind. Very quiet with max # of other campers totally 5!
Yep Ngals rocks bogged me till I dropped my pressures further to 15PSI. Great bit of learning there. Whilst I have Mud tyres fitted , I wouldn't have believed a drop of 5PSI could make such a difference.
Very impressed with the Puma 110's capabilities.
Yes there are plenty of D*ckheads however there are also a lot of great people also wanting to get the most out of their Frasrr experience.
Interesting recovery of a FJ Cruiser.....All the Gear....No idea springs to mind(see post in Defender wave)
