Checked the under seat storage for something loose![]()
Hey all,
Haven't posted for a while. I am pulling my hair out with a problem with Defender transmission click noise so I thought I would ask the knowledge base here on AULRO. The fender has a click noise every time power goes on or I turn corners at low speed, diff lock on or off. It is not constant click click click, just every now and then. Like for example when I drive around a tree on the grass at my house it clicks once or twice as I turn around the tree. Now I know that its not the CVS as its coming from the mid or rear of the vehicle.
So far I have
1) Removed the front prop shaft and she clicks at the back or maybe mid of the vehicle.
2) Removed the rear prop and run on front shaft- no noise. (so now I think its rear related)
3) Swapped out the rear prop from a fender with no noise and still clicks.
4) put new A frame ball joint in as the old one had a little movement....No difference.
5) Removed the maxi drive axles and flanges and all look good.
Checked all the bushes and they are fine. And tight.
Any thoughts? Maybe inside the diff? Its got an ARB locker BTW. I had 4.1 diff gears fitted about two years ago and they rebuilt the diff at the same time. BUT It was doing it before and after this as well. However the noise lately is getting louder and more frequent.
Any thoughts Guys?

When I'm here I want to be out there.
If it is a p38a rear diff model then it is likely to be coming from the rear pinion flange nut/ bolt not being tight enough. Those with subarus will know what it sounds like if you have ever had incorrectly torqued up axle nuts.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Its got a Salisbury axle. But I admit I did not check the nut. That's something to add to the to do list.
I f the diff`s were rebuilt maybe loose Crown wheel![]()

Check for a tiny bit of movement on the big nut at the front of the rear lower links.
