    New shock time

    IMGP1344.1.jpg

No great issues with fitting but the plastic cover on the drivers side is a bugger to get off, I ended up unscrewing the self tapper from inside the guard and didn't refit it. Test drive will have to wait until a trip to the farm on Saturday to mark some lambs.
$1108 for all four delivered from Suspension Megastore in WA. Pretty quick shipping as well, they were ordered on the 19th.

    Regards,

It has taken four days on my own, in and out of the rain, to drop the LT77/LT230 combo on the old 110 on uneven concrete outside. Thought lock down was imminent four weeks ago and stocked up on oil seals, engine/gearbox mounts and new clutch bits just in case. Why waste a good lock down when you can catch up on the much needed maintenance on the old truck.

So far have discovered a broken gearbox mount (explains the thud), and a leak in the exhaust pipe to manifold join (explains that clatter).

Just started raining again so inside for the evening. Time for a single malt.

Will take a few more days to do the work and get everything back into working mode again.

Did a bit of a service on my 300Tdi. Changed the engine oil and filter, air filter, front and rear diffs and the A frame ball joint grease nipple. Checked the axle breathers. Lub’ed the prop shaft/uj’s.

The oil from the rear diff was a little milky and had a metallic sheen to it but much cleaner than the last change. The front looked new!

I also drained the swivel housings. Well drained is probably not technically correct as there was just a little trickle out of each. Maybe a couple of tablespoons at best of very dark treacle consistency gunk so filled them 80/90. I have never checked these before, obviously What did you do on your Defender today ? (well, this week anyway)

Finally I adjusted the park brake as it had been sticking and now at least isn’t sticking and holds on our steep track.

Was going to do the gearbox but don’t have a T55 torx. Will sort that after lockdown and was unable to undo the transfer box filler. Fortunately I checked before removing the drain plug!
    Cheers

Rear axle seal is leaking, had a pleasant surprise when I went to remove the axle.

Removed windscreen washer jet, soaked in diluted hydrochloric acid for a couple of minutes, rinsed, blew out with compressed air, a bit of finger contortion through the ashtray to 'tighten' the hidden nut best I could, re-installed with a spray of WD40 and a tap of the rubber mallet. Like new.

Great solution... may I ask what the original symptom was? Nothing is coming out of mine atm, would rather not pull the dash apart...

Installed new rear speakers in the 130. Hand shaped block mounts and frame. Cut holes insitu with a dremel. Many thanks to Don 130 in this thread for the idea.

Rebuilt steering box, new front disks and pads, brand new second hand transfer case (Old one dropped a bearing. I think I'd been flogging it too hard around tight bends in too high a gear. The Transfer case groans like a constipated bull when you do that. Mechanic says, just wear and tear.) new Ashcroft adaptor shaft (Old one wasn't too bad but why not when the things in bits.),new clutch and slave cylinder ( Old clutch wasn't too bad but again why not when the thing's in bits.) new radius arm bushes and a full service. Don't ask how much. I'm trying to forget.
Edit: 138,000 Ks in case you were wondering.
    Cheers, Billy.
    Keeping it simple is complicated.
