    Mod plate for gullwings?

Do you need or should you get a mod plate for fitting gullwings to a 110 ? Whats everybodys thoughts on covering rear door window with something like alloy checker plating ? My glass window was broken so i replaced it with perspex for cost reasons, but i dont like it for security reasons and i hate getting blinded at night with someone tail gating.

I don’t think you need a mod plate for gull wing...but I guess it km’s modification

I got a warning for having solar shades on my back door window and the police lady said I cannot obstruct the inside rear view mirror. .

Its interesting they care about blocking rear view mirror, when you consider some trucks/vans dont have a rear window. Also when you look at half the utes on road these days with either tools, toolboxes and even dog boxes compeletly covering rear windows.

The structural strength of the Defender is in the chassis, changing or removing windows does nothing to vehicular integrity. Which is why sometimes people make a custom car based on a Land Rover chassis, for engineering purposes it's still a Land Rover and the integral parts (strength, suspension, steering etc) remain the same. In some monocoque cars windows form part of the structural strength.

I reckon she just didn't like the look of you.

I can see about 2" out of my rear window. Well that is what I would be able to see if I had a rear view mirror in the cab.
Oh, and it passed the roadworthy like that.

This may be so, but previous owner (SA) of my 130 cut out part of the rear cab wall to make a crawl through and I had to have this engineered before registering it in NSW. And the structural strength was not impacted by this.

In saying that I don't believe gullwings would require engineering, but I'm not the registering authority.

I didn't need a mod plate for the gullwings when I changed from NSW to QLD rego.

I haven't had a rear view mirror in my Defender for years, and have had the rear window covered for the last few months. It is covered internally and just looks like dark tint though, I think the authorities would take exception to checker plate.

I'd like to see the reg that details that point...and how it applies to trucks, utes, motorbikes and anything towing a van or covered trailer.

Check my thread out..appears the police woman may be wrong...either way warning was issued, I’ve tried three times to contact the officer without luck.

So this morning hen we packed camp we removed the solar shades.
