Thanks so much for the advice people. I have attached some images, as is at the moment with -25 dynamic wheels with 285/75r16 Bridgestone d674 mts. I have just picked up 5 wolf wheels, and 5 x 255/85r16 toyo open country mt. I am thinking it may be best to leave the extended flares as is for the time being and see how they look. I know they will perform well, so it's only and aesthetic issue really. It may be nicer to have the bigger flares than have a row of filled holes that will probably never quite look 'right.'

I like your choice of tyre

    Hi mate,

I have a set of Hankook Dynapro MT's on my 110 that have just ticked over 70,000 km and going strong. They are 265/75R16. When they wear a bit more and it's time for a change, I also intend fitting the Toyo Open Country MT's in 255/85R16. I have King Wheels, 16x7 with zero offset.

I reckon with the extra -25 mm offset you have, you'll be thankful of the bigger flares as you shouldn't have anything poking out.

Please post some pics when you do the change

    Cheers,
    Nige

I'm not fitting the 255s on the -25 dynamics though, will be fitting them to wolf steel rims which are about +20. So they will sit well inside the extended flares.

But mate, I recon 255s on zero offset wheels will be perfect when you do the change!

    Whoops my bad :)

I had already sent my post before I thought about the Wolf rims being different offset. Duh!

Yes, I am really looking forward to the 255's on zero offset. The Hankooks have lasted really well. I'm driving from Canberra to Esperance WA in November, then up to Perth and back to Canberra. That should put a bit of a dent in the Kooks

    Cheers,
    Nige

I'll get a pic up as soon as I have them fitted, and I'll give them fair go in the hills here around queenstown, west coast tas. I suspect the toyos will be good. I used to run that size in bf on disco 1 wheels, and they were great but rubbed on articulation. I've got some standard flares in the shed to go on if they don't look right under the extended flares. The 285s have been good too, but more power 'sucking' than 255s and I have never liked how they stick out and throw mud on the car. Don't like how the look 'jeep like' either.

So I have the toyo 255/85r16 on wolf rims fitted. And as the thread suggests, I was concerned how it would look with the extended flares I have (from previously fitted 285/75r16 on -25 dynamics)

First thing I noticed was the handling and steering improvement. Feels much more direct, precise and lighter. Turning circle is about the same, but much less effort.

Offroad it feels great and wheel placement is easier and clearance is slightly improved. Couldn't say if the traction up some steep slippery stuff was better but it certainly wasn't worse than 285s. Didn't come across any deep mud to compare.

Best bit is there is no crud showered all over the door hadles and sides of car! Big flares don't look amazing, but I'm not in a huge hurry to take 'em off as they look ok for now!

You wouldn't think from those pics that the toyo 255/85 is near on 34 inch tyre! At least the authorities should leave me alone!

    Me likey

The Toyos look so good I may have to leave the little thumper in the shed and drive the Deefer to and from work just so I can wear out my Hankooks a little faster

I am imagining it or do those wolf rims look like the offset has been changed on them
