    225/95/R16 Anyone tried them?

After once getting beached on top of one of the sand dunes during a recent crossing of the Simpson Desert (on completely stock suspension and tyres, 2013 110), we found ourselves parked next to a NT government Land cruiser in Alice Springs that had enormous tall thin tyres which made the Cruiser seem high compared to the deefer on what appeared to be normal suspensions for both vehicles. They seem to be a 33 inch tyre but slightly less wide than the stock 235/85/16 tyres rather than wider as would normally be the case with getting 33s. It seems Toyota is putting them on new vehicles, at least in the Territory. Got me wondering if anyone has tried putting 225/95/16 on their Defender or would know if they would work on boost alloys?

Just checked and you will gain 14mm in ride height.
My guess is that you will get a much longer footprint once aired down for the sand.
That size seems to be popular in the desert areas of the world.

I didn't know this size existed but am definitely going to try these out as I'd love a slightly taller tyre on the stock 5.5J steelies. And even better the Dueler D697 is available in this size!

The internet tells me it is the metric version of a 7.50r 16, which is slightly bigger (OD) than a 235/85.

Nope 7.50x16 are the same diameter as a 235. 31.7”. Their metric designation would be 210/95R16.

    tojo takeoff 225/95r16

Well, I went to pick up a set of road slippers from a tojo takeoff at the tojo stealers. Got there and found they rolled out a set of 697 bridgets. Checked and they only had 697. Said really wanted the slippers but the Bridgets would do for the same price. Prob a bit cheeky. Boss didn't know they had changed from road slippers to 697 on cruisers.

Defender tray back now has a a set of 697's on white 7 inch rims. Only negative observations is that they noticably bulge wider than the tread pattern. Would be a worry in mulga country as the sidewalls look to be a bit exposed.

Running book standard pressures of 2 bar in front and 2.5 in rear. Has taken a lot of bangs and rattles out of the truck. Seem good so far and in recent wet.

What were you running before this tyre as a point of comparison?

Thanks for this. Bridgestone say rim width from 5.5” to 7”. Interestingly I pic I saw of Dunlops online show that they have a imprint “do not fit to 6.5” rim” on them.

Do you have standard height suspension? I guess your white rims might have a different offset to boost alloys? I’m trying to work out if I could fit these without a lift and without the problems with rubbing on steering lock associated with going wider.

As far as I know standard offset rims and the 225/95 tyres are only marginally bigger than 7.50r16 or 235/85. found an online table and checked the diameter when looking at the road slippers.

    dia 805 vs 833 mm

I think the comment you saw was do not fit to 16.5 inch rims which is correct.
