Bit late to reply on this one as the OP has it sorted.
*Yes i've replaced inlet manifolds on both 2.4lt and 2.2lt.
*The round blue inlet seals can be more prone to failing more so than the manifold cracking.
*Its more common for the seals to get a bit leaking over time, its not really a big issue, any of it.
Overall both the 2.4 and 2.2 are more reliable than just about anything else on the road, be it a Land Rover badge or not.
Really concerned after i started the 110 this morning. Blowing light white smoke and noticed that I’ve lost about 1 litre of coolant. Topped up the coolant and ran it for 5 minutes but no real change to smoke. Don’t see any oil in the coolant tank but I’m think head gasket!
No water on the dipstick! Oil looks ok. Haven’t checked the filler cap for condensation yet.
It has been sitting idle in the drive way for a week so not sure if this is the cause?
I have partially sealed/covered the crack with a silicon based glue for the moment but I’m thinking the intake manifold crack is related somehow.
The oil spray coming from the inlet manifold might be indicative that the intercooler is full
Of oil (done 100k) and might need a good clean. Here’s hoping!!
Has anyone in Brisbane used SBL at acacia ridge? Think I. Red a good mechanic . MR are great but they are a long way to travel.

The Ford engine does seem to suffer from sitting around and the white smoke is likely due to less than perfect injectors.Quote:

If the intercooler was that full of oil it would be burning large amounts of blue smoke.
I would get the inlet fixed first and see how it runs, while its there being repaired they could also do a hydrocarbon test on the cooling system.
Thanks DazzaTD5. I think your advice is very sound. Once it warmed up it there was less smoke. Working on the intake manifold. There is only one in Australia @$650!!!! but I’ve found one half the price in GB. Might drop a note to roverlord to see what they have.
Put my hand across the exhaust and it smells of burnt oil. Not sweet smelling. I think this is a good sign.
Pulled the airflow sensor on the turbot intake and it is very oily.
Looking at the turbot intake to throttle body, I can see lots of oil weeping from the rubber elbow.
Learning lots and think I need to stop being an alarmist.

Do these manifold problems cause a whistle under acceleration. I'm wondering if my manifold seal is leaking. It's being serviced next Thursday so I'm going to ask for a check. Just trying to pin it down.

After acquiring a new manifold, I took it to a my guy and he began the search for answers.
cold pressure tested the system to 4 bar. Not leaks. (Phew.. but wait)
Removed the coolant from the system to get to the EGR and manifold. Apparently missing about 4 liters of coolant, even though the overflow tank had coolant in it.
He is concerned the head could not have been getting cooled properly but he cannot understand how this could be the case as no air was coming from the bleed valve, even after running the engine... possible air lock?
He removed the EGR cooler, valve and intake manifold.
EGR intake on the exhaust manifold was dry, up to the EGR cooler. EGR pipe down stream to the intake manifold and into the manifold was wet. Central intake ports all cleaned from the water intake. intake ports at the edge of the manifold are normal.
Cold pressure tested the EGR system and holds pressure... head scratching. Perhaps only leaks when hot.
Next step is to blank EGR for a test period and drive it... will replace the EGR cooler (somewhere between $800 and $400 for genuine or aftermarket respectively.) At that price I need to check on second hand coolers, cause that is expensive!!!!
Hope like hell the head is not damaged but any thoughts from the brains trust would be appreciated

Anyone know of ECU remap that just provides EGR delete? @$400, surely it is cheaper to blank and delete the EGR.
Hi Daz, any recommendations on where to get an inlet manifold, and are the ones for the transit 2.4 the same as the Defender ones? I can't seem to get any answers from ford but they are a lot cheaper.Quote:
