Hated Toyota 4x4's before I even ever thought of owning Land Rover's. Don't have to be biast, you can just not like them.
And the driver's.....don't get me started.

I have recently bought a second hand 79 series V8 for 30k, If you asked me if I would buy another I would tell you in a heartbeat.
Its a big solid truck with power to spare and it only uses 15l per 100k with 500 to 600kg in the back towing 2.5t of caravan
The aircon works great and it is nice and quiet in the cab unlike a defender.
The sweet sound of the V8 rumbling through the 4inch exhaust is something you will never hear driving a deefer.
I love my D2 but given a choice between a deefer and a 79 series I would buy a Tojo every time.
Bear in mind Africa is on Euro3 so still have the mighty 1HZ , none of that V8 Rubbish :)

Yeah watched it. Yawn. Conveniently he doesn't fully talk about the 70 series' shortcomings, nor all the advantages of Defender.
So ...ASPW starts off by saying, ‘I don’t know why Defender has the bonnet hump’! And then he ignores the fact that his Toyota doesn’t even need the hump! He then talks about the rear doors claiming Land Cruisers re are better sealed for dust! LOL The number of Tojo back foors that I’ve had jam and fill with dust is laughable.
With the hill climb, at least he admits that ‘clearly the Defender is far superior’. The downhill issue is not something I’ve experienced in my Puma, except in reverse.
Crossing the river he has to admit the Defender is better. Clearance and no leaf springs. The ride is better. And he reckons the Toyota is quieter on the highway, which I totally disagree with in terms of the Puma IME.
Advantages of each from my perspective:
Defender:
Bigger chassis
Aluminium body
Lower centre of gravity
Four coil suspension
Better ride on road
Better handling on and off road
More capable off road
Front and rear track equal
Better wheel articulation
Better ground clearance
Better seating position
More economical
Puma is quieter
Better GVM standard
Better network of enthusiasts and indies.
70:
Bigger network of brand-friendly mechanics around the country.
Better air conditioning
More shoulder room (not that this bothers me at all)
