1985 110 County genuine expedition style roof rack - did it exist?

    Hi all
I'm about to take possession of a very original 1985 110 County with Isuzu 4bd1 and LT95
I'd like to fit a full length expedition style roof rack for aerodynamics and want to keep everything as original as possible

Just wondering if a factory/genuine rack existed in 85? I've phoned a couple of landy wreckers, but haven't had anyone answer my question yet - just people offering very recent genuine racks and aftermarket modern racks

If yes, where would be the best place in Australia to start looking (wreckers etc.)?

    Thanks
    G

Probably does not help, but my memory says most roofracks from that date were home made one-offs.

Worth noting that roofracks from any Landrovers post 1958 are compatible with the County (same body type of course).

    Thanks John

I've been looking for some original sales brochures to see if anything is shown in photos etc, but they tend not to show much

Came across a series III wrecking what looked like a one-off rack, but it actually looked a little too old school for the '85

The late 90's rack I found would look too out of place if I'm honest, but I'll keep digging for now

    Rack

The only one I know of is on the tsunami.
Not sure many would sell them off there cars.
Sure I will be corrected if wrong.

I have a copy of the Series Three Salesman's Manual from Land rover. It makes no mention whatsoever of roof racks in optional equipment or accessories.

They did exist, although probably not in Australia. The rack pictured looks like a Brownchurch, but made a bit cheaper - somewhat like the OE bullbar here in Aus, like an ARB but made cheaper.

Imagine the cost of shipping something like a roofrack from the UK.
As suggested, more likely that LR would have sourced in the local market if they offered one.

I have a '95 Tanami which came with a roofrack, I've seen a couple and the roofracks look slightly different. As it was an 'add-on' kit that turned a Defender into a Tanami maybe they sourced from different suppliers in different States ??

As to finding a secondhand one....racks get taken on & off, modified to fit other vehicles and scrapped. Finding one from the period would be difficult, but not impossible.

Why not check out local roofrack manufacturers and see if anyone makes an 'old style' one (or was willing to make one).
I'm in the process of cutting & shutting one to fit a Dormobile. Shorter than normal as it only sits over the front part of the roof but extends out over the rear of the bonnet.

    Best of luck.

They don’t look all that practical......my previous defer come with a homemade rack that had high side, the extra 6” you had to lift up over the rail was a pain.

    I purchased a flat rack...
