I think it was a 12 gallon drum, which, as you say, was common then, but after that time I can't be sure. Best gauge of scale is I definitely remember the tyre size was 19.75x20.
Before we left Brisbane, one of our blokes claimed to be the only driver known to force a Brisbane tram to back off - the bumper was about level with the tram driver's nose! The truck also, as will be no surprise, had a lousy turning circle, and Brisbane has some fairly narrow streets that used to have trams running down them. No idea what it was doing driving round streets with trams - we had a yard in West End.

10 days and back on the road, swivels back together, new tyres, assuming spacers have been ditched and fully tested off road
Oh and the repaired swivel....guess you will need to watch to see how it all worked out.
Agree it would be cast steel and weldable without issue. The swivels on a 101 are welded to the end of the axle tubes from factory and some owners have cut and rewelded them to adjust the input drive shaft angle to alleviate prop shaft rumble, so although with this one I wouldn't want to drive to the ends of the earth the repaired unit, I don't think it would be as bad as everyone is making out.

Here's the follow-up Video of their repairs:
I really can relate to this.
I travelled thru Zaire (when it was called that) on a motorbike, with 2 other motorbikes and a defender.
The defender, had carried a LOT of spares, so much so that that 2 x coils broke and 2 axles.
Yes, it was about 1000kms of mud, but the weight, in my opinion caused those issues.
I remember, very fondly, that we went to catholic mission, and welded up the coil spring <-yes. The defender made it to Uganda
