    Td5 fuel pump removal tool

I am planning to replace the fuel pump in my td5 130 when I have the tray off in a few weeks time. Does anyone know if either of the tools below are the correct one to remove the locking ring?

Most people just tap it loose with a screwdriver.

The first one looks right. If you're handy with a welder you can make one with a few pieces of steel & an old socket.
They make the reinstall job easier.

    Thanks.

Achieving 'handy' status with welding has been on my to-do list for at least 20 years!

OK to revive this thread, how do you get the ring back on, seems to start and then pops off. The V8 was easy, this is just ridiculous.

Make sure you fit the rubber sealing ring to the tank first.....bit of lube should go on easy!

This is where having the tool (bought or homemade) makes it easier to apply even downward pressure rather than trying to do it with a screwdriver or two.

I remember it being a bit fiddly but not too difficult - I'm pretty sure I turned the ring anti-clockwise until is 'clicked' and then turned it clockwise again with very even pressure. (I often use this technique to avoid cross-threading.)

My trick is to put a sponge under a block of high density foam, lube the sealing ring, put the seal in place, insert the pump put the lock ring in place, sponge then foam on top of the pump assy then kneel on it so it sits in place the ring then goes on by hand.
