P0088 - High Fuel Pressure fault code

    G’day All,

I’m on holiday in Esperance WA and have had an engine warning light come on. (Orange motor symbol). I’m in a 2015 Defender.

My Nanocom shows a P0088 code which it says is a high fuel pressure problem. It also says that it is intermittent.

The warning light came on whilst on a track and stayed on for about 50km until we stopped for about an hour.

The following day it came on again in the morning on the way back from having a coffee. Once again, after stopping for a while with the engine turned off, the warning light went out.

Each time it’s come on I’ve heard a short “chattering” noise. 1-2 seconds only. Each time it’s come on has been within 10km of first starting for the day.

We’re due to leave Esperance tomorrow for Kalgoorlie before leaving to drive back home to the NSW Central Coast on Monday.

Does anyone know what the cause of the fault might be and how serious.

Also, any suggestions for a good (Defender familiar) mechanic in Kalgoorlie, Ceduna or Port Augusta would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

No matter what the problem - there's a solution. You've just got to find it.

Sounds like pressure relief valve on fuel rail or suction control valve. Once the PRV pops it never seals and will throw faults. Best to replace both because a faulty SCV will cause the PRV to pop.
