    Defender Gullwing Shortage?

    Hi All,

Im told the CSW Defender Gullwing window is in shortage from the expedition centre, Daniel advised that the factory just doesn't seem to be shipping any and the current wait list is up to Feb already so isn't taking any more orders until its resolved.

Im wondering if any of you guys know of where else you can source these from?

I know you can get the Frontrunner ones instead, but I already have 1 on the passenger side so I'd like to keep them uniform and have both CSW versions.....plus the Frontrunner one is twice the price!

Hope someone has some good news for me

Unfortunately I cant help but much except to say that I placed an order with an expected 12-14 week lead time. I accepted that cause I wanted to support an Australian company, but after almost twice that long my order was still no closer to being filled. I ended up going with frontrunner (luckily before the price hike).

If demand is so high that they cant meet it, then the obvious answer is expand, especially when the competition can be delivered within a fortnight.

I’m currently waiting on several orders for CSW Gullwings for various customers, some ordered as far back as July.
I spoke to Luke at CSW directly last week. They’re extremely busy and behind on all orders, it’s as simple as that.

I’m actually considering designing my own, but that would be some time off yet.

I wasn't sure if the CSW Brand was made locally or just imported in by the Expedition Centre, and was just hoping there would be stock I could pay a slight premium for and have shipped in from overseas......but, it seems not.

I really want both sides to be the same, so I'd prefer to just wait than order a different model (providing they will actually eventually fulfil my order!)

But like Graekynn said - if you cant keep up with demand then expand, even if only temporarily.

Hi all, because of the lead time from expedition centre and the price of the front runner ones I started looking at other options and found these: Explore Glazing - Land Rover Defender

Located in Holland the team was very helpful (and speak english), my order took two weeks and they arrived in time for my xmas break. €800 ($1400) including shipping made them a little more expensive but here when I needed them.

They appear a very high quality window, hopefully getting time to start fitting tomorrow once xmas family obligations are finished.

Will post photos of installation otherwise a good video on their site.

    Just stumbled on this thread.
I installed Explore Gullwings on our Hardtop 110 earlier this year. These are another size than SW windows and I haven't seen them elsewhere.

These are the more transparent ones.

There was an issue with the gas spring mounts being a bit too close to one another, it looked like the people at Explore used the wrong template. Since I only discovered this after the windows were fitted, new holes had to be drilled to install the inner mounts a bit lower. Explore sent me new mounts, screws, drill bits and a thread cutter to fix it the very same day I notified them about it.

It's noteworthy in the installation videos that the glue they used is quite fluid. I used an automotive body glue which was thicker, and this resulted in a slight buckling of the sidewalls since the glue was more compressed by the screws. In this case I should have clamped the frames evenly over their full surface - or use other glue evidently.

Some holes of the (truck-cab window-)frames partly overlap the original holes. I added some screws by the way.

The latches have rubber grommets in the part that pushes against the frame, you might want to fix them with glue - I already lost a couple of them - but not definitively since they're actually pushed in the heads of Allen screws that you might need to adjust.

Despite these remarks I'm very happy with the result. They handled Iceland and a lot of corrugations well. Not only the increased accessibility is worth the change: the car is also more silent and evidently there's no rattling anymore - and at least they have proper latches and locks instead of the fragile plasticy contraptions on the original windows.
Only thing I would like to see improved is the option to open them from inside. By the way, I noticed that your latches are different, discofender, it looks loke the people of Explore are continuously improving their products.

Hope this helps a bit. Greetings,

    Joris

I have a HT as well, CWS will do (used to) custom sizes. Didn’t realize there were other that catered for HT owners.

I have four narrower ones made to suit the HT.

Here's a couple photos of the completed install of the Explore glazing gullwings. Easy to fit, drill out the 26 rivets on the original window, grind off the four corner tabs with a Dremel, test fit new windows and re-drill holes (annoyingly none line up with exsisting despite being extremely close), sikaflex round the window and push home, tighten up the 10 x M8 counter sunk machine screws provided.

It took me approx 1 and half hours per side plus a liitle more tidying and refitting the interior trim.

V happy with the windows, tint matches, all common keyed and the low profile latches latch securely.

If you can't wait 12 weeks for the local product or want full glass like I did I would recommend these.

    Cheers Discofender

    Nice!
I put a gull wing from Daniel in my 110 a few years back & I was really happy with it. I used it to access the fridge.
I used velcro to attach foil sandwich type insulation to the glass and also made a very simple addition with an angle bracket to lock the window ajar about 3” to vent the fridge.

To save $ I made the slider on the drivers side into a double slide, through which I could access my recovery gear shadow board and oils/maintenance kit.

That's a great idea, any tips on how to do get it done? Did you use the sliding section of window from the other side to replace the fixed section?
    Cheers
