Best Sealant to use on Sump and Transfer case

    Hey Legend,

Currently have a couple leaks on the 300tdi, best the front of the engine sump, transfer case and turbo oil feed/drain.

The engine sump, i feel is leaking through the timing belt case breather hole but would like to eliminate the possibility of the sump gasket before pulling the timing case apart. What is the best gasket sealant to use on the sump, any tricks tips for this?

I put a bigger sump on the transfer case not long ago and used some sealant that i picked up from local repco, it has been leaking ever since and planning to redo as feel the sealant isnt up to standard, best sealant for this?

Lastly, I have put a new turbo cartridge in and ever since it has leaked oil out of the top and bottom where the feed and drain pipes are. I've heated the copper washers and had no luck sealing it. Just buy new ones?

Favourite engine and transfer case oil?

Thanks everyone, just want my car back on the road

The best sealant to use is the Land Rover recommended product.
    Part number STC50550.
It's a Loctite 5900 if you want to go after market.
Most places will just sell you a RTV silicone.
It doesn't leak oil, Its sweating power

    Permatex Aviation form a gasket.
It's a goopy brown liquid that you brush on.

More likely the front main seal.
I chased what I thought was the sump gasket too, but then one and one added up and the realisation hit me that it was the front main, as I'd just changed the timing belt, and didn't change the front main seal whilst there.
Yeah, PITB to do it all again, but at least the leak stopped.

ps. whatever the last guy that sealed the sump on my tdi used ... can't be beat. Can't be removed either! .. but that's a problem for when the time comes too. I just wish I knew what it is.

pps. when I realise my faux pas, I didn't have the time to sort it out immediately. So as a stop gap, I used a brass t piece on the wading plug threads with the open end a clear hose going sidewards and up to the A/C area so to not get water into it.
The other end of the t-piece I used a small brass tap to stop the oil dripping all over the place. Every week I'd drain it(about 50ml) making sure any oil collected never rose near the line of the harmonic balancer so that the cam belt wouldn't run in oil(hence the clear hose).
    Arthur.

I also like Loctite's RTV for the sump.

For rigid flanges my favourite is Loctite 515 or 518

    Dow Corning 732.

    OR
Genuine Toyota sealant (Threebond, reddish brown one, as Toyota have another one for the cooling system).
Nissan genuine sealant (same as above).

Loctite grey maxx, its the sealant we use the most on tractors and construction gear. we use it in caulking guns to lay down nice even beads. Works well and is easy to clean off when the time comes. Using stuff like permatex is a nightmare to clean off specially while having oil dripping on you the hole time.
