I want to swap engines and looking for a suitable engine crane and supplier here in Tassie. Supercheap have a 1 ton but will it lift 300tdi weight and also lift high enough to clear aircon condenser if left in place?
If I have to remove aircon where does one go to get it degassed?

I have a supercheap. Chrome on the ram not high quality but still working after many years. Lifted close to 400kg no probs. Don't expect to move it around on dirt or sandy surfaces unless you lift/drop/move a foot/lift/drop move a foot etc.
I had a regasser come around with a vacuum pump. They store it then you get it back for a small fee. Unfortunately my system turned out to be empty.
the supercheap one will not get a tdi out if the disco is lifted unless you pull the rocker cover and short reeve without an engine leveller.
its a 2 stage lift for me, the first gets it up and out off the box, I put it back down short reeve it then pull it out.
reverse the process for install.
installing without a leveler can be "entertaining"

I have a Supercheap, To remove the engine from my '49 Dodge your supposed to remove the front bodywork (per manual) but I didn't want to as I had nowhere clean to store it , The front of the dodge is easy as high as a 110.
The crane did not have enough lift by about 30mm so after I started the lift I put a jack under the axles and removed the front wheels and lowered the axles onto stands - job done.
Ditto getting the engine into the back of the Iveco and onto a tyre to transport it to the rebuilders. Had to remove rear wheel of Iveco and lower it 50mm .
where theres a will theres lateral thinking!
for the price and the for one or two times a year I need it I can't complain.

I agree with Dave
You will have a much more enjoyable time with a leveller
Especially install trying to line up the clutch
I made a simple leveller with a length of heavy wall SHS some threaded rod and some flatbar
Leveller has helped remove and align not only 300tdi engines but also much heavier donks like a 6 cylinder Volvo marine diesel.
Your life will be much easier if you de-gas the AC and remove the condenser

If you can go for a 2T, do. My experience the engine crane I have is that it they must use lightweight tonnes as it is unstable at anything near the rated capacity. Have only used for moving machinery.
Also make sure you are on concrete.
