Locked Fuel cap: Ideas?
Ladies and gents: Your wisdom and ideas needed.
I’m out in the Northern Territory bush with a fuel cap that has failed and somehow self locked... So I can’t put fuel in.
But just arrived at my own home where we have plenty of fuel. We spent hours today fiddling trying to unlock the cap, trying different keys but nothing worked... Remember, we didn’t actually lock the cap, something has failed and it’s somehow self locked.
So tomorrow my plan is to drill out the lock in the cap. I don’t see an alternative. Is this advisable?
Im actually carrying a spare fuel cap so we have a replacement. But what about the risk of filings dropping into the tank and entering the fuel system?
Hector is a Puma 2.2.
Thanks, i’ll check this again tomorrow before I start drilling.

Im not familiar with puma style fuel caps but if there like the tdi ones i would personally just try to pry out the key barrel with a screw driver. Save drilling heaps of crap into your fuel tank

Ok. The solution was so simple it was a total non-event.
Thankyou Google!
For the benefit of others, just drill a hole or push a screwdriver directly through the plastic fuel cap. Shove your screwdriver through to the hole. This binds the revolving screwtop with the thread inside which is what you want. Just unscrew the cap normally. 10 seconds.
