    Winch compatibility with OEM Bullbar

    Hi guys,

I've recently acquired a Defender Xtreme and would like to know what winches people have fitted to these vehicles with the OE Land Rover winch bars. I did read somewhere that the warn xd9000 is one winch that fits. Can anyone confirm this or suggest other options? I'd prefer not to have to modify the bar if it can be avoided.

I had a genuine bar on my old Feb '99 first registered Deefer with a Warm XD9000 winch.
At the time it was the dealer fitted option.

i have a Runva 9500-q fitted to my factory bar.
It is on a puma but i believe the land rover stamped factory fitted bars for the td5 xtreme are the same. Believed to be the Rinder manufactured one with the parker and indicator lights.

I'll be swapping out the bar to an ARB Deluxe in a few weeks. if you like, I can take some photos of the current setup when i pull it apart.

Thanks guys. I've picked up an xd9000 that should get me out of trouble! Good to know there are other options out there.

    Cheers, Peter.

If the offer is still there, some pics would be good. Did you have to use a winch installation kit?

    Cheers, Peter.

    Cheers, Peter.

i installed it over the weekend. i've only got one useable photo of the original bar setup. Let me know if you want photos of how it's installed in the deluxe.

It's pretty much installed the same way on the deluxe as with the factory bar. There is no need for any winch installation kit. The winch installs with the bolts all facing forward and not to a mounting bracket or plate. You may need a control box mounting bracket. My old setup had my control box tech screwed into the top of the factory bar.

Turns out my winch is an 11xp. Didn't know this until i pulled it out and did a quick service, so a little longer. With a 9000 it should fit correctly with the clutch lever in a more accessible spot. (most likely line up with the slot opening on top of the bar).

Only difference with the factory and the deluxe is with the factory, the winch is tucked in towards the bullbar more.
With the deluxe it sticks further back and my clutch lever does hit the grille if fully released.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks Mello. Very helpful and informative, gives me a good idea of what will be required.

Currently waiting on my control box mount bracket. Also a couple of winch / welding lugs, as the previous auto elec decided to not use a proper hydraulic crimper. I suspect they used a vice to crimp my main positive winch wire. Thus resulting in me ripping off the old lugs when i yanked on my positive cable.
I can try get a few more angles when i redo the lugs in a couple of days.

Just linking a thread by Patrick110td5 from technical chatter.
He has posted a few photos of an xd9000 in a factory bar.
