Just keep it simple, a 12 volt facet pump plus some extra fuel hose is all you need to transfer fuel over as you req. Just do it when you have room to transfer over. Handy to have a extra pump if engine pump fails, just plumb it in and carry on. Enjoy the drive, take your time, hope there is not to much **** paper out there now.
I installed a second tank under the tray of my ute and bought a 12v inline pump from Whitworths to transfer the fuel. The great thing about diesel is that you can use plastic pipes & fittings!Quote:

Fuel range is increased and therefore less weight in fuel is required. DON'T skimp on suspension, select the correct spring rates and do not skimp on shock absorbers. Wheel bearings, hub seals, driveline oils and cooling system all need to be prepared for the loads applied during the trip, and replacement belts and hoses should be carried. A Tdi has few hoses and belts so they weigh little and take up little room.
A pair of wheel bearings and hub seals, fan belt tensioner pulley and AC pulley bearings, a selection of fluids, cable ties, fuses, wire, connectors, basic tools and a repair manual if you are not familiar with the vehicle enough to perform basic repairs.
The other very important bit of advice?
Don't be in a rush. Enjoy the trip, and the vehicle will love you for it.
Don't choose firm spring rates either. A D1 is not a sports car. You want plenty of travel to absorb bumps.
The only spare I needed with my TDI on remote tracks was a clutch master, I carried a kit and with the help of I million flies I rebuilt it. I changed the whole master cylinder after the trip to be sure, given the size i wished I’d carried a whole master given the effort to change and the size of the part.
A well serviced car shouldn’t need a lot of spares. Some fit new bits and keep the old bits as spares, I don’t really get that logic.
I’d consider belts and hoses....
I’d throw in air and fuel filters
I no longer carry wheel bearings...based on I’ve never had a wheel bearing fail.
