Suggest wheel brg kit. Also a fuel lift pump as if it fails it will stop a 300tdi. Cheap insurance.

Opportunity has risen for me to head for the Canning in June 21 .
Little early than planned.
New suspension in. Aux guages bought just need to install in the Ridji dash.
To be done long range tank , water tank.
What spares do I need. Obviously the usual wheel bearing , hoses , belts , oil any other TDI specific?

Be very fussy about your cooling system. Being pressurised it can't be allowed to leak or the coolant won't reach the top of the engine, with bad results.

Shocks and bushes.
What shocks did you fit?
Koni Heavy track and new standard springs on the front. Currently got the original dual coils on the rear.
Travelled the CSR in 2015 in my Tdi, spare shocks, wheel bearings and changed water pump before going, all that broke was an exhaust mount, if going in July it’s bloody cold especially Southern end, Halls Creek was 30 max by memory, mate travel at a safe speed we averaged 22km/h and all will be fine, enjoy it’s awesome... Most issues are overloaded people with a ridiculous time frame...
Yep, travel light. Lighter the better.
Make sure your suspension bushes are in really good condition.
Go around the engine bay with a packet of cable ties and tie everything flexible so it can't vibrate and snap.
A pulley on the aircon belt on our D1 300Tdi siezed when we did The Simpson, so we just removed the belt and kept going.
Up The Cape, the flexible joint in the exhaust split. The bracket holding the power steering bottle also snapped from flexing on the corrugations.
The roof rack on another vehicle snapped and punched a hole in his roof!
It really is a good idea to go slowly around your vehicle at least once a day and look for problems before they get serious.
You might also replace any belts which are even slightly worn with new ones and carry the old ones as emergency spares.
Filters for air, fuel and oil should be replaced and spares carried, either new ones or even the old ones if their condition is okay.
Another good idea is to liberally grease everything that can be greased.
You may already plan to do these things, so sorry if anything sounds bleeding obvious, but my experience is its vital to get the simple stuff right before worrying about fancy mods.
Thanks guys, appreciate the advice.
I have crossed the Simpson twice. But not in the Tdi.
You are right , lighter the better. Just a touring tent, not towing a boat anchor, like some in the group are. If I remember you can't tow until after well 7. Don't no why you would
I a few people run those doluim diesel tanks in the tubs, how do you transfer the fuel? 12volt electric pump .
