300tdi should had rear disc instead of drums like on 200tdi. Also 200tdi will have LT77 box, which most accept is not as good as R380 box in 300tdi.
That is definitely a plus, although I really like the reverse close to 1 gear

get replacement panel sections from Home - YRM Metal Solutions

1.5k for a basic gearbox rebuild, same with TFC. That will replace bearings and seals. if anything else is worn, add the cost of the parts. You can source all your needs from Ashcroft or Syncro Gearboxes out of the UK.

you are on a path now. any lets be honest with your self, a defender is a life long project so don't kid yourself that you will patch up the known problems and down tools.
Good find on the panel mob young Mark. Looking forward to the next pub with no beer bash (fingers firmly crossed!) You and Jo enjoy your xmas and new year.

Before you lash out on repair panels from overseas I'd chat with Harry (The Ho Har's) because he makes excellent repair panels for a very good price, will even make up tailor made sections of pretty much whatever bulkhead pieces you need. Saved me a stack of money and drama on my bulkhead repairs.

I'd also stick with the 300tdi.

    Cheers,

    Adam

    Thanks

    Some updates.
I went to check the 200.
    It is incredibly rust free.
The bulkhead, footwell, doors and other stuff is rust free
The engine runs perfectly and the gearbox is also really nice.
Lots of pros in this vehicle, the main con is that the roof has 2 big holes (some vents where there in the past) that have been covered from checker plate.

He has also dropped the price bringing the difference in 4.5k between the 300 and the 200.

I think I will sell my 300 and get that 200.
I'm fixing the rust in the floors and then I'll put it up for sale.
