TD5 window Teeny-tiny yellow door lifter lever knuckle thingy - where can I get them?

    Hi Folks,

my right rear window dropped today. Upon investigation there is a Teeny-tiny yellow door lifter lever knuckle thingy, and it has split. I'm at a loss to find it anywhere. The photo shows it... Do I have to make this myself?

Anyone now? And while at that, what to do when the yellow moulded bit on the door card is broken off and the black push-in thingy can't be fitted anymore? Two more photos of that one...

    Thanks!

There are lots of ways to fix the roller. there are posts recommending sliding door rollers from Bunnings, using a bit of breadboard etc. A new mechanism last time I looked is about $50 on Ebay.

The black thing is the door insert. Lever it off and glue it in the door.

The yellow things are replaceable. I keep a stock of them . They are available from specialists and Supercheap may even have the size on their rotating rack.

    Thanks Philip.
The mechanism is ok, as is the little knuckle around which the yellow „grommet“ is. That nylon grommet has split. I guess I could grind down the knuckle, tap it and für a small bearing. Finding the grommet would be better. It’s lasted 15 years so not bad.

The black barbed push in is easy to get. It slides on the yellow mushroom that unfortunately is (seems?) hot mounded to the door card. That seems a problem. I tried to hot melt glue the black barb but did not last. All my door cards have at least 3 of them missing

Yes but AFAIK you cannot get the slider. Thus the roller from Bunnings. The procedure was posted some time ago. It depends on your tolerance of a window not working. I wanted fast and easy so just bought a new mechanism.

You can get them for a BMW E36 from AFAIR Pelican Parts in the USA but I don't know if they are the same size. I do not think they are and in any case they are a slider. I had an E36 at one stage.

I have a good D2 drivers door mechanism stored at home with the same roller gone. Trouble is now that I have a new mechanism, it will probably never be needed!LOL.

Breadboard fix for TD5 Defender rear window broken lifter knuckle plastic surround

Have you heard of Disaster Relief Australia? Anyway, we were in East Gippsland and my right rear window dropped again and one of my mates heard me saying that I was looking for a nylon breadboard to harvest a small strip for fixing it. "I've got one and you can have a bit" and so I cut a small strip.

At home this fix evolved. It really took only 30 minutes. The knuckle is a convenient 'just under 10mm' so fits nicely in a 10mm hole in the nylon. I cut a slot in the nylon and then chiselled the font bit and it all sits nicely. There is still a bit of the original grease in the slider. Goes up and down nicely and looks like it will last. AND, I have enough nylon breadboard for the other 4 windows if they fail.

In case you wondered. The strip was cut with a fine blade on my 18V saw, I did clean the edge and the breadboard is fully functional in my mate's van. A win all round.
