There was no manual with the head unit (2nd hand) but should be in my wife’s Puma which is the same year.

I can’t find a cable in the second link it seems to refer to a discontinued Alpine radio or am I missing something?

The only thing I'm not sure about is the cable you have in the Defer photo does not look like tit will fit into the DIN end of the adapter cable yet the Aerpro pages says it suits disco 2 and Defender Puma.
Edit, is the cable you are holding in the picture one or two plugs? also does the cable that came with the radio fit in the plug at the back of it? It looks like it should.

The blurry photo is one plug. The plug that came with the new one does plug into both the top slots on the new radio..
Edit: the cable in the link looks like it might go the trick!
I didnt have a lot of trouble replacing the radio in my Puma. The plug is wired for four speakers and two power wires. use a multi meter to work out which wores are connected to the speakers and find which power wire is connected to the accesory circuit.
The original radio had very poor reception and i now get three times better distance from Melbourne before i lose radio stations.

Ok finally got the 2012 Puma radio installed to replace the original cassette unit in my ‘99 Td5 and I must admit, very disappointed with the performance. As mentioned previously we have a 2012 puma and the radio in that works well and is identical to the one I just installed in the Td5.
It seems the signal at the radio is not strong as it starts hunting for stations. Admittedly I haven’t had a look in the handbook as it’s in the puma which the wife has at work. So maybe just selecting different parameters might fix the problem.
But am wondering what else might be causing this. As best I can tell the antennas are the same, LR030590. Is there some sort of additional filter somewhere in the system?
We listen to same radio station in all three defenders, even the 300Tdi original radio works fine! It’s just the Td5 that has a problem.
Antennas can make a huge difference, after getting tired of replacing broken masts on the tractor I went for an antenna that is supposedly for broadcast bands mounted on a CB base. It isn't as good as the crappy cowl mount ones that were mounted on the side of the cab. Maybe try a new antenna?Quote:
