Glue to attach Rear High Mount Brake light

    Hi All,
I need to re-attach my rear high brake light on my 2010 Defender 110 wagon.
I tried some silicon type product (Sikaflex 227) which held for about a week, but then detached.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks
    JA

Sikaflex 227 isn’t silicone (it’s polyurethane) and I’m surprised it didn’t work. I use it a fair bit and it sticks like the proverbial to a blanket.

Mate of mine recommended the product and said the same thing about how it sticks….. maybe didn’t let it set long enough before applying load.

Sikaflex 227? Has a shear strength of 700 Newtons per square inch,so is very very strong.

I have about a 100mm square bit of nylon breadboard stuck to my rear roof ( D2) to hold a roof rack bracket from which I mount my awning and it hasn’t moved for over 5 years even though has been over GRR and hit by a few tree branches.
    It is great stuff.

If your sikaflex joint failed then it is operator error.
Make sure that both surfaces are nice and clean and dry then leave the sika to set for at least 24hrs and the glue will most likely last the life of the fender.

I have used sikaflex for decades and it has Never let me down, The only problem is the stuff doesn't store well and it is expensive.

Recently, I had to do a job with 227. After my previous use of it, the stuff had cured in the nozzle all the way back to the cartridge.

I could get the nozzle off leaving a conical length of 227. There was no way I could tear the cone off. The 227 stretched and stretched. In the end I cut it off and drilled through the remainder into the cartridge so that I could get the 227 to do the job.

(The job was glueing the crappy plastic covers back onto my CTEK charger clips.)
